WHY A SOUL FAST?
Before we can understand the importance of a soul fast, we must first understand what is a soul. Our soul is our mind, will and emotions. A fast is a willful act to abstain from the pleasures of this world for a spiritual purpose.
Since we are spiritual beings, the only way that we can connect to God who is spirit; is by going into the spiritual realm. When we operate in our natural ways, we are operating according to our flesh, our soul which is directed by our mind, will and emotions. When we are filled by the Holy Spirit we are operating in the supernatural spiritual realm. (Galatians 5) KJV/NKJV
How do we enter into the presence of God?
We enter into God‘s presence with prayer, thanksgiving, praise, worship and through consecration (to separate ourselves from the world), by fasting.
When we have any unconfessed sin, unforgiveness, anger, fear, doubt, bitterness, jealousy, etc., we cannot enter into the presence of God. But if we confess our sins and repent (which means to fully turn away from our sins), God is just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) KJV/NKJV
For where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom, righteousness, truth, peace, joy, love, meekness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, patience, understanding, contentment, sound mind. (2 Cor 3:17) (Galatians 5:22-23) KJV/NKJV
