Have you ever asked God why you have been going through trials and challenges in your life? Jesus said in the world we will have tribulation, but He then commanded us to be of good cheer because He overcame the world (John 16:33). As followers of Christ, the Word says because of our faith in Him we have also overcome the world (1 John 5:4).
Yet this still doesn't answer the question, "Why does God put us through trials?" So here are three reasons why God puts us through trials and challenges. Watch the video version Here.
3 Reasons Why God puts us Through Trials and Challenges
1. To increase our faith.
Faith is what we need in order to get closer to the Lord. Romans 12:3 shows us "God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." In order to increase our faith we need to go through trials that give us the option to put our faith in the world or in God.
2. It allows us to draw near to God
James 4:8 says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." When you go through a challenge you will either go to the world for advice or go to God for advice. A God-given trial or challenge is another opportunity to come closer to God and seek your Heavenly Father and the Spirit of counsel for wisdom.
3. It purifies us
John 15:3 says, "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you." When you draw near to God through a season of trial and seek His Word, it will purify your heart and cleanse your soul. The fiery trials purify us and allow us to see who God is (Matthew 5:8).
Here is one last word of encouragement as you go through trials and tests of your faith in this lifetime. "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28) You can watch the full version of why we go through trials and challenges Here.
